Clare Hammond

Acclaimed by The Daily Telegraph as a pianist of ‘amazing power and panache’, Clare Hammond has given recitals at the City of London, Cheltenham and Presteigne Festivals, and regularly performs at the Wigmore and Bridgewater Halls. The Guardian praised her début recital at the Southbank Centre in London for its ‘crisp precision and unflashy intelligence’. A passionate advocate of twentieth- and twenty-first-century music, she combines a formidable technique and virtuosic flair onstage with stylistic integrity and attention to detail.
During the Panufnik Centenary in 2014, Clare Hammond released Reflections, a disc featuring the piano music of Andrzej and Roxanna Panufnik [BIS-2003], a recording described as ‘commandingly virtuosic’ in BBC Music Magazine and ‘stunningly performed’ in Gramophone. Her involvement with the centenary celebrations also included co-curating a chamber festival at Kings Place in London with the Brodsky Quartet and giving concerts both at the Chopin and his Europe Festival in Warsaw and at the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music. Clare Hammond has broadcast from the Wigmore Hall for BBC Radio 3’s ‘Live in Concert’ and her performance of Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin was chosen as one of their monthly highlights. She has performed six études by Unsuk Chin for ‘Hear and Now’, and appears regularly on ‘In Tune’. Clare Hammond has given world premières of works by Kenneth Hesketh, Robert Saxton and David Matthews, lectures widely, and is establishing a rep- utation as an advocate for new or unfamiliar music.
